The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor has opened another new route: the inaugural train from Fuling Longtou Port to North Africa has departed.
At around 10 a.m. on March 31, with a long whistle, a train fully loaded with semi-knocked-down (SKD) automobile parts slowly departed from Chongqing Fuling Longtou Port, marking the successful inaugural departure of the Fuling Longtou Port to North Africa train.
The train is loaded with 150 sets of SKD automobile parts, with a cargo value of approximately 10 million yuan. It will head to Qinzhou Port in Guangxi and then be shipped by sea to Skikda Port in Algeria, North Africa. The total transportation time is expected to be shortened by more than 10 days compared to the traditional river-sea combined transport model.
This transportation is provided by COSCO Shipping Chongqing, offering end-to-end supply chain services. Leveraging a mature international shipping network and overseas warehousing resources, it achieves seamless integration between railway trains and ocean shipping routes. This is a vivid example of deep collaboration among railway, port, and shipping enterprises, as well as another successful practice of the "railway + sea transport" multimodal transport model of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor.
A relevant official from the Chengdu Bureau of China Railway Chongqing Railway Logistics Center stated that SKD automobile parts have extremely high requirements for transportation timeliness and stability. The operation of this train fully demonstrates the comprehensive capability of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor to serve the export of high-value-added products. It not only injects new momentum into the high-quality development of regional industries but also provides solid logistics support for deepening China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.
As an important starting point for the Central Asia and China-Africa trains of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, Fuling Longtou Port's strength is not to be underestimated. Since the dedicated railway line opened in March 2024, the cargo throughput here has surged. So far, the railway shipment volume has reached nearly 5 million tons. Not only have trains been launched from Longtou Port to Qinzhou Port and Beilun Port, but the port's throughput in 2025 also exceeded 10.3 million tons, a 143.43% increase compared to last year. Through the "railway collection and distribution + port transshipment + road delivery" integrated transport model, the core value of "reducing costs and increasing efficiency" for enterprises has been truly realized, extending the advantages of multimodal transport to the international market.
Moreover, the rail-water intermodal facilities project at Longtou Port's operation area was completed last year. This project is a hub project of the "rail-road-water" multimodal transport system. By leveraging the combined effects of railway and waterway transportation, it can further enhance the transportation efficiency of Longtou Port's comprehensive logistics hub, improve the "rail-road-water" multimodal transport system, effectively reduce enterprise logistics costs by 20%, and play a significant role in promoting the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor.
"As an important 'dual-direction dual-channel' logistics system in the southwest region, Longtou Port and Fuling District's comprehensive transportation infrastructure have been continuously improved since the beginning of this year, effectively promoting seamless integration between railways and ports. The annual bidirectional cargo transshipment capacity of the rail-water intermodal facilities project can reach 5.95 million tons," said Xiong Yuanxi, the on-site manager of the rail-water intermodal facilities project at Chongqing Port Longtou operation area. Moving forward, Longtou Port will strengthen cooperation with railways, customs, and corridor operation platforms, continuously optimize transportation organization, improve service quality, and help more "Made in Chongqing" products reach international markets, striving to build the New Western Land-Sea Corridor into a more efficient, cost-effective, and far-reaching international logistics golden corridor.
