Huzhou has launched an innovative carbon evaluation system and 'ecological ID' for its 797 inland cargo vessels. The initiative provides a standardized basis to assess energy consumption and carbon emissions, classifying ships into five carbon efficiency levels. The 'ecological ID' features a unique code that consolidates essential data including carbon efficiency grade, energy usage, and emission reduction records, serving as a tool for green upgrades, exemplary fleet cultivation, and supporting green finance. As an inland waterway development pioneer, Huzhou is championing green shipping solutions with 13 new energy vessels in operation and 25 under construction. This initiative also includes a call to action for enhancing carbon efficiency in inland shipping and presents a practical example through Zhejiang's first electric vessel carbon credit trade.
