Tianjin Maritime Bureau visited Yan'an "Young Maritime School" to conduct the "First Lesson" on maritime safety knowledge for the new school term.

“When wearing a life jacket, you must check the buckles, wear the vest properly, and secure it firmly. You can't just put it on casually, as it won't protect you effectively that way.”

On September 15, at the beginning of the school term, volunteers from the Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration visited the affiliated middle and elementary schools of Yan'an Vocational and Technical College to host a water safety knowledge fun sports event. Centered on fun competitions and hands-on experiences, the event allowed students to learn maritime safety knowledge and master risk avoidance and self-rescue skills in a relaxed and cheerful interactive competition, bringing a vivid and lively maritime safety education practice class to the red-themed campus.

This fun sports event carefully designed three distinctive segments: a life jacket relay race, a water rescue obstacle course, and a water safety knowledge quiz competition. It innovatively adopted an "exercise + hands-on + science popularization" educational model, transforming "lecture-style" learning into "immersive" experiences. Through running, relays, and teamwork, children mastered maritime safety knowledge.

On the playground, items such as life jackets, ice cream buckets, and life buoys were neatly arranged. As the referee's whistle blew, four teams, composed of students from the affiliated middle and elementary schools, began an intense competition. In the "life jacket relay race" segment, students reacted quickly, completing the full set of operations, including putting on life jackets, fastening buckles, and securing straps, and then simulated the standard posture for stable self-protection after falling into the water, solidly grasping the core points of life jacket usage. In the "water rescue obstacle simulation race," students transformed into "junior maritime safety officers," immersively experiencing water rescue scenarios. They used life buoys to encircle "drowning victims" and then dragged them to the safety zone using an underarm towing posture for precise placement. Cheers and shouts of encouragement echoed across the field as everyone learned and gained skills in a joyful competitive atmosphere. After the intense hands-on competition, the knowledge quiz segment brought the atmosphere to a climax. Centered on maritime topics such as the 12395 maritime rescue hotline, ship types, and ship waste classification, students eagerly raised their hands and competed to answer, responding crisply and accurately. Maritime volunteers provided real-time answers, scientific explanations, and corrections of common safety misconceptions on-site, ensuring that various maritime safety knowledge truly took root in their minds and hearts.

A school teacher stated, “This form of water safety knowledge fun sports event not only enhances physical fitness but also cultivates teamwork and collaboration skills. This 'learning and practicing combined' approach allows children to master self-rescue skills while playing, making it more impactful than traditional lectures.”

It is reported that last September, the Tianjin Nanjiang Maritime Safety Administration and the affiliated middle and elementary schools of Yan'an Vocational and Technical College signed a "Junior Maritime School" co-construction agreement, marking the official establishment of the first batch of "Junior Maritime Schools" in Yan'an City. Over the past year, the Tianjin Maritime Department has leveraged its resource advantages and focused on the educational needs of schools, addressing challenges such as the weak water safety education for inland youth and the incomplete curriculum system. Through diverse measures such as online course empowerment, special lectures, campus culture co-construction, and science popularization base building, they have promoted the deep integration of red-themed education with maritime and ocean culture science education. This event is an important part of the Tianjin Maritime Department's efforts to create a distinctive school-based curriculum for "Junior Maritime Schools" and is a beneficial exploration of innovating maritime safety knowledge science education in inland campuses.

Moving forward, the Tianjin Maritime Department will continue to deepen the co-construction of "Junior Maritime Schools," enrich science popularization formats, innovate activity platforms, and regularly carry out fun science popularization and hands-on training safety education activities. They aim to enhance and refine the distinctive school-based curriculum, contributing to the promotion of maritime and ocean culture education in the central and western regions and fostering a new generation of youth with a maritime vision and aspirations for a strong nation.
