Dalian Port Pilot Station has cumulatively piloted over 560,000 ships.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Dalian Port Piloting Station. Recently, the reporter learned from the Dalian Port Piloting Station that, since its establishment, the station has provided piloting services for over 560,000 vessels, achieving multiple breakthroughs such as piloting the first domestic ultra-large heavy-load oil tanker to berth at a 300,000-ton crude oil terminal and piloting the first 400,000-ton ship, firmly securing its position as a leader in domestic piloting.
In 1951, the first generation of Dalian Port pilots started from scratch, ending the monopoly of piloting by foreign personnel. Over the past 75 years, the Dalian Port Piloting Station has taken the lead in solving the docking and departing techniques for large bulk carriers, large oil tankers, and deep-sea container ships under complex working conditions. Since 1990, it has achieved the normalization of nighttime piloting for most vessels and has successively completed refined piloting operations in dense fog and adverse sea conditions. The station has facilitated over 100 entries and exits of China's aircraft carriers Liaoning and Shandong, efficiently fulfilling major national strategic tasks. It successfully piloted the floating transport of 18 giant immersed pipe segments for the Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel project, filling the gap in domestic piloting services for large-scale underwater engineering transports.
Currently, the Dalian Port Piloting Station possesses world-class piloting capabilities for vessels such as 450,000-ton crude oil carriers, 400,000-ton ore carriers, 24,000-TEU container ships, and 260,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas carriers, achieving the goal of "piloting skills for all vessel types, piloting in all weather conditions." The station has twice been recognized as one of the "Top Ten Piloting Institutions in China." The station's director stated their commitment to upholding the mission of ensuring smooth operation and safety, contributing to the acceleration of building China as a transportation and maritime powerhouse.
