Highlights at a glance
In January 2024, China's monoammonium phosphate (MAP) production dropped to 878,100 tons, down 11.33% month-on-month and 10.73% year-on-year, due to weak order demand, rising inventories, and widespread production cuts or shutdowns as firms moved toward holiday closures. The industry’s operating rate fell to 49.85%, declining 3.43% MoM and 12.80% YoY. In contrast, diammonium phosphate (DAP) production rose to 1.19 million tons, up 4.94% MoM and 16.67% YoY, supported by steady domestic supply, ongoing winter storage orders, and partial restarts of maintenance facilities. Despite this output increase, the DAP operating rate declined to 55.73%, down 10.02% MoM and 4.82% YoY, indicating continued operational challenges despite improved production volumes.
