Highlights at a glance
In January 2024, China's urea production reached approximately 5.0655 million tons, a 2.38% decrease month-on-month but a 9.67% increase year-on-year. Daily output averaged 163,400 tons, down from 167,400 tons in December 2023 but up significantly from the prior year. The domestic urea industry’s average operating rate stood at 74.05%, 5.22% lower than the previous month yet 2.78% higher than the same period last year. Production was initially constrained by natural gas supply restrictions and unplanned outages, particularly affecting ammonia synthesis units, which led to reduced capacity utilization in the first half of the month. However, as maintenance activities concluded and previously halted facilities resumed operations, production gradually recovered in the latter half. With fewer planned maintenance shutdowns expected next month and continued restarts, industry capacity utilization is projected to rise, increasing supply pressure. Despite short-term fluctuations, overall produ
