A new export channel has opened for energy storage cabinets: the first batch has been successfully loaded onto a vessel at the Shanghai Nangang Terminal.
China News Service, Shanghai, March 22 (Chen Jing, Ye Zhenyu) A new channel for energy storage cabinets to go overseas has been added in the Yangtze River Delta region. Early on the 22nd, as a domestically produced energy storage cabinet covered with blue protective oil cloth was smoothly hoisted onto the Liberian-flagged "Kraszewski" ship, the energy storage cabinet export business at Shanghai South Port Terminal officially commenced operations.
Energy storage cabinets are key supporting equipment to ensure the grid operation of wind power, photovoltaic, and other new energy systems, maintaining grid stability and reliability. Energy storage cabinets are characterized by large size and heavy tonnage, making sea transport the most economical mode of transportation. A total of 46 energy storage cabinets are being exported this time, with each unit having a volume equivalent to a standard container and weighing 43 tons. These energy storage cabinets will be loaded onto the ship along with a total of 717 pieces of various equipment and materials, including substation radiators, wind turbine units, and wind turbine blades, for export to the European market.

To undertake the energy storage cabinet export business and precisely serve manufacturing enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta and Lingang area for nearby overseas shipping, the terminal operator has implemented special upgrades and renovations to port facilities and equipment, establishing a dedicated storage area for energy storage cabinets. After comprehensive acceptance of the energy storage cabinet export renovation project, Shanghai South Port Terminal has become the only port in the Shanghai area with the qualification for energy storage cabinet exports.
Currently, the Lingang New Area has gathered over 20 enterprises in the energy storage industry chain, forming a complete industrial ecosystem covering demonstration applications, energy storage systems, core equipment, and battery cell materials. Relying on nearby exports from Shanghai South Port Terminal can effectively reduce logistics and operational costs for enterprises, enhance supply chain turnover efficiency, and contribute to high-quality development in international trade.
Energy storage cabinets are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods under the "International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code" (IMDG Code), requiring high safety control throughout the transportation and export process. This operation not only marks the first time Shanghai South Port Terminal has conducted energy storage cabinet loading operations but also features characteristics such as a wide variety of large cargo types, varying specifications and sizes, high operational complexity, and long ship port cycles, making operational assurance challenging.
To ensure port and shipping companies safely and efficiently complete the loading operation tasks, Yangshan Border Inspection Station implements around-the-clock on-duty supervision and full-chain closed-loop regulation, fully ensuring the safety, smoothness, and orderly progress of crew shifts, ship fuel refueling, and sea-side docking operations. Yangshan Border Inspection Station Duty Team Three Instructor Guo Guanghai stated: "The ship's port duration for this voyage is 8 days, with a total loading capacity exceeding 60,000 tons. We issued docking operation permits for 5 barge trips, promptly responding to ship fuel refueling, sea-side overweight and oversized operations, and various material supply needs, ensuring the safe and smooth loading and export of this batch of power equipment."
