Indonesia Advances Urea Export Talks, Seeking to Add to Global Supply
Indonesian officials are conducting urea export negotiations with India, Brazil, Thailand, and the Philippines. Indonesia has annual urea production capacity of 14.5 million tonnes, with surplus supply beyond domestic demand and potential export availability of around 1.5 million tonnes. The government has made clear that domestic food security will be prioritized, while remaining capacity will be exported. Against the backdrop of shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Indonesia aims to become an alternative global fertilizer supply source. The market is watching the pace of contract implementation, which may divert demand away from Middle Eastern and Chinese cargoes.
India's 1.7 Million Tonne Urea Import Tender Continues to Drive the Global Nitrogen Fertilizer Market
India's RCF urea tender, totaling 1.7 million tonnes, including 1 million t for the west coast and 700,000 t for the east coast, closes on August 11, with the latest shipment date set for September 24. Global traders are closely watching the award prices. If transaction prices are attractive, they will stimulate urea exports from the Middle East and Southeast Asia and push up international urea FOB offers. If the tender prices are clearly pressured lower, the upside room for international nitrogen fertilizer prices will be restrained in the short term.
