Highlights at a glance
The domestic phosphate fertilizer market showed mixed trends in May 2024. Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) prices rose steadily due to strong demand from compound fertilizer producers and tight spot supply, with price indices increasing across grades. In contrast, Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) prices declined slightly amid weak transaction activity and rising inventories, despite stable export order fulfillment. While MAP production and operating rates increased year-on-year, DAP output dipped month-on-month but remained higher annually. April export data revealed sharp monthly increases in both MAP and DAP shipments, though cumulative exports for the year declined significantly. Port inventories for both fertilizers dropped substantially year-on-year, signaling tighter supply. Looking ahead, weakening summer demand, declining raw material costs, and cautious buyer sentiment are expected to lead to a period of weak consolidation with minor price fluctuations in the near term.
