Highlights at a glance
Chlorfenapyr is a broad-spectrum pyrrole insecticide and acaricide with a unique mode of action, effective against a wide range of pests and mites. It functions as a pro-insecticide, metabolized in insects by oxidative activation into a toxic compound that disrupts mitochondrial energy production, leading to paralysis and death. It exhibits both contact and stomach toxicity, has no cross-resistance with other insecticides, and offers moderate residual activity with low application rates (100g a.i./hm²). With selective systemic properties when absorbed via roots and favorable mammalian toxicity profile—moderate oral and low dermal toxicity—it is widely used in agriculture for integrated pest management. Unlike conventional pesticides, chlorfenapyr inhibits photosynthesis in chloroplast-containing organisms, adding herbicidal effects to its utility. Its novel structure and efficacy surpass those of cypermethrin, flucythrinate, dicofol, and cyhexatin, making it a valuable tool in modern crop protection.
