Paraquat Product Introduction
Paraquat (PQ) is a herbicide that can be absorbed by plants and rapidly translocated within them, causing damage to plant tissues and ultimately leading to plant death. Its chemical structure resembles plant growth hormones, but its molecular mechanism is more complex. It interferes with protein synthesis, destroys cell walls and membranes, thereby inhibiting photosynthesis and respiration.
1. Characteristics
A fast-acting, non-selective, contact herbicide of the quaternary ammonium salt class. The active ingredient has an extremely strong destructive power on the lamellae of chloroplasts, quickly halting photosynthesis and chlorophyll synthesis. Tissues begin to show damage and discoloration within 2-3 hours of contact. Gramoxone (a common brand name) has a strong destructive effect on the green tissues of both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. However, it lacks systemic action, affecting only the contacted parts. It cannot penetrate suberized bark and is readily deactivated upon contact with soil. It does not destroy plant roots or seeds buried in the soil, so weed regrowth can occur after application.
2. Scope of Application
Controls various annual weeds. Has a strong killing effect on perennial weeds, but their underground stems and roots can sprout new growth; it has no effect on lignified brown stems and trunks.
Suitable for controlling weeds in orchards, mulberry fields, rubber plantations, and forest belts. Can also be used to control weeds on non-cropland, field ridges, and roadsides. For wide-row crops like corn, sugarcane, soybeans, and nurseries, directed spray can be used to control weeds.
Crop Safety: Paraquat is a non-selective herbicide. If not sprayed on the green stems and leaves of crops, and the solution only contacts the brown, lignified bark or branches, it will not harm crops or trees. Paraquat loses its activity upon contact with soil. Applying it 1-2 days before sowing for weed control is safe for the subsequent crop.
