Oxolinic Acid Product Introduction
Oxolinic acid is an antibiotic effective against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism of action is to achieve bactericidal effects by inhibiting DNA gyrase and DNA synthesis.
I. Product Introduction
Oxolinic acid, also known as oxolinic acid, oquinocide, or oxolinic acid, belongs to the second generation of quinoline bactericides. It appears as white to yellowish-white columnar crystals or crystalline powder at room temperature, odorless and tasteless. It exhibits strong antibacterial efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive bacteria, with no cross-resistance with antibiotics. However, it has no antibacterial effect against fungi or tubercle bacilli (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Its advantages include low dosage and excellent bacteriostatic effects. It is primarily used to treat bacterial diseases in fish and shrimp. Aquaculture practitioners consider it one of the more ideal drugs for treating diseases in aquatic animals, showing considerable antibacterial activity against fish pathogens such as Vibrio anguillarum and Aeromonas hydrophila.
II. Main Uses
A quinoline bactericide used for rice seed treatment. It is recognized as the first highly effective bactericide against the rice disease bacterial grain rot (seedling rot). Treating seeds with the agent before sowing can suppress the occurrence of bacterial grain rot and seedling rot. Transplanting healthy seedlings to the main field after this treatment can prevent the occurrence of bacterial grain rot. Its mechanism of action involves broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, but weaker activity against Gram-positive bacteria, and no activity against fungi. It inhibits DNA synthesis, thereby hindering pathogen division and proliferation. Within bacterial cells, it binds to subunit A of the enzyme responsible for introducing negative supercoils into the DNA's supercoiled structure, suppressing its function and preventing DNA replication, leading to cell death. Treatment methods include: soaking seeds in 1000g/mL solution for 24 hours, soaking in 1000g/mL solution for 10 minutes, or seed coating with 0.5% seed weight of 20% wettable powder, achieving over 97% control efficacy. This product can also be used to control rice grain rot, potato blackleg, soft rot, fire blight, and similar diseases. For example, foliar spraying at 300-600g active ingredient per hectare during rice heading can control rice grain rot; foliar spraying at 300-600g active ingredient per hectare can control fire blight and soft rot in apples and pears. It also provides excellent protective and curative effects against Chinese cabbage soft rot.
