DIQUAT Product Introduction
Diquat is a broad-spectrum herbicide widely used in agriculture and horticulture. Its chemical name is N-(phosphorylmethyl)glycine. Diquat is a white crystalline solid, odorless, and water-soluble.
I. Core Characteristics and Mechanism of Action
Rapid Contact Killing: The most significant characteristic of diquat is its extremely rapid onset of action. Within hours of spraying, obvious chlorosis and wilting symptoms appear on the affected plant parts, and the above-ground parts usually dry out and die completely within 1-2 days.
It is a contact herbicide, meaning it primarily kills the green tissues of plants that come into direct contact with the herbicide, without undergoing long-distance translocation within the plant.
Mechanism of Action: Diquat's mechanism of action is to destroy the chloroplast membranes of plant cells. Under light conditions, it rapidly promotes the production of hydrogen peroxide in plant cells, thereby destroying cell structure and causing rapid dehydration and drying of tissues. This process requires light, therefore its effect is more pronounced on sunny days.
Non-Selective: Diquat is non-selective, meaning it can kill almost all green plants it comes into contact with. Therefore, it is often used in scenarios requiring thorough removal of surface vegetation.
II. Main Application Scenarios
Based on its characteristics, diquat is commonly used in the following areas:
Crop withering/harvesting assistance: In agricultural production, it is often used to wither crops such as potatoes and soybeans before harvesting. By killing vines and leaves on the ground, it makes harvesting easier and promotes thickening of the tuber or pod skin, which is beneficial for storage.
Rapid weed control in non-arable land: Used in non-arable areas such as roadsides, railways, warehouses, and industrial parks to quickly remove weeds.
Weed control before crop rotation: Used to quickly eliminate weeds already growing in the field after the previous crop is harvested and before the next crop is planted.
