Highlights at a glance
Clethodim is a highly effective cyclohexenone herbicide widely used to control grassy weeds in broad-leaved crops such as soybeans, cotton, and rapeseed. It works by inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), disrupting fatty acid and flavonoid synthesis, ultimately leading to chlorosis, necrosis, and plant death within 1–3 weeks. Known for its high activity, broad-spectrum control, and cost-effectiveness, clethodim effectively manages tough weeds like barnyard grass, crabgrass, and wild oats. It exhibits strong systemic absorption, rainfastness within hours of application, and lasting effects up to 60 days. Active even at low temperatures (above 2°C), its performance may slow under cold conditions due to reduced herbicide uptake. Notably, clethodim synergizes well with non-selective herbicides like glyphosate or glufosinate-ammonium, offering an effective solution against resistant weeds such as goosegrass. This makes it a valuable tool in modern weed management strategies.
