Highlights at a glance
Butachlor is a selective, pre-emergence amide herbicide widely used in rice cultivation to control annual grasses and certain broad-leaved weeds. It is effective in both direct-seeded and transplanted rice fields, with application possible before weed emergence or post-seedling. Absorbed primarily through young weed buds, Butachlor inhibits protein synthesis by disrupting protease activity, thereby halting normal growth of roots and shoots. It exhibits good selectivity in crops like wheat, barley, cotton, peanuts, sugar beets, and Chinese cabbage. With an effective dosage of 1.0–4.5 kg active ingredient per hectare, it performs best under moist soil conditions and has extended residual activity—up to 1–2 months—in clay loam or high-organic-matter soils due to reduced leaching. The chemical is stable at room temperature and within pH 7–10, miscible with organic solvents but poorly soluble in water, and degrades in soil over time. While low in mammalian toxicity, it can irritate skin and eyes and is highly toxic to fish. FDD-Global supports the agricultural input industry by connecting manufacturers of pesticides like Butachlor with global distributors and growers through a digital platform, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and precision across the agri-value chain.
