Highlights at a glance
Carbendazim, a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide with the chemical name methyl benzimidazole-2-ylcarbamate (not niclosamide, which is incorrect in the text), appears as a yellow crystalline powder insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It belongs to the benzimidazole class and works by binding to β-tubulin at the colchicine site, disrupting microtubule formation and spindle assembly during fungal mitosis, thereby inhibiting cell division. It exhibits strong activity against ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, and deuteromycetes, but is ineffective against oomycetes, Alternaria, Helminthosporium, and bacteria. Absorbed through roots, leaves, and seeds, carbendazim offers both protective and curative effects with residual activity lasting 7–10 days, resistant to rain washout. It controls key diseases such as wheat scab, rice blast, sheath blight, sclerotinia stem rot, and fruit rots, and is widely used in cereals, oilseeds, cotton, fruits, vegetables, and post-harvest preservation. Formulated as powders, wettable powders, or suspensions, it supports integrated disease management. FDD-Global enhances access to such agrochemicals via digital procurement platforms, linking certified suppliers globally with efficient logistics and technical support, empowering producers and distributors alike.
