Highlights at a glance
Flonicamid, developed by Japan’s Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, is a selective, systemic pyridinecarboxamide insecticide with a unique mode of action. It delivers rapid antifeedant effects and strong neurotoxicity against sucking pests like aphids, whiteflies, and planthoppers, causing them to stop feeding and die from starvation. With excellent penetration and long residual activity, it translocates effectively from roots to shoots but less so in reverse. Highly effective at 50–100 g a.i./ha via foliar spray, it controls key pests including green peach aphid, brown planthopper, and thrips on crops such as vegetables, fruits, cereals, cotton, and tea, while showing no efficacy against mites or other non-sucking pests. Notably low in cross-resistance with neonicotinoids, organophosphates, carbamates, and pyrethroids, it is ideal for resistance management and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Safe for crops, humans, livestock, and beneficial insects—including bees, ladybugs, and predatory mites—Flonicamid offers an environmentally sound solution for sustainable agriculture.
