Flonicamid Product Introduction
Flonicamid is an insecticide developed by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. of Japan. It is a pyridinecarboxamide insect growth regulator with a unique mode of action. It exhibits excellent neurotoxic effects and rapid antifeedant activity against sucking pests such as aphids. To date, no antagonism with other active ingredients has been found. Compared to existing insecticides like neonicotinoids, it exhibits low sensitivity and no cross-resistance with traditional insecticides.
I. Scope of Application
Flonicamid is selective, systemic, has strong penetrating action, and offers long residual efficacy. It is effective against various sucking pests and possesses good penetrative properties. It can translocate from roots to stems and leaves, but translocation from leaves to stems and roots is relatively weaker. The insecticide works by blocking the sucking action of pests. Pests cease feeding shortly after ingesting the chemical and eventually starve to death. It can be used on fruit trees, cereals, potatoes, rice, cotton, vegetables, legumes, cucumbers, eggplants, melons, tea plants, and ornamental plants to control sucking pests such as aphids, whiteflies, brown planthoppers, thrips, and leafhoppers, with particularly high efficacy against aphids.
II. Target Pests
Flonicamid is a highly efficient, selective insecticide with good systemic properties, strong penetration, and long residual efficacy. It can be used on fruit trees, cereals, potatoes, rice, cotton, vegetables, legumes, cucurbits, eggplants, tea plants, stone fruits, sunflowers, tomatoes, and greenhouse ornamental plants to control sucking pests such as cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii), potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae), whiteflies, cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae), tea green leafhopper (Empoasca onukii), green peach aphid (Myzus persicae), brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens), yellow tea thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis), English grain aphid (Sitobion avenae), thrips, and greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum), with outstanding efficacy against aphids. The foliar spray application rate is 50-100g active ingredient per hectare (g a.i./ha). Flonicamid shows no activity against mites, Diptera, Coleoptera, or Lepidoptera pests.
When used at recommended rates, Flonicamid is safe for crops, humans, livestock, and the environment. It has no adverse effects on beneficial arthropods such as silkworms (Bombyx mori), honeybees (Apis mellifera), ladybugs (Harmonia axyridis), and predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis). It exhibits no cross-resistance with organophosphates, carbamates, or pyrethroids, making it suitable for controlling pests resistant to these insecticides and neonicotinoids. Flonicamid's outstanding mode of action and safety to beneficial insects make it an important product for resistance management and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems.
