Indoxacarb Product Introduction
Indoxacarb is a dihydropyrazole insecticide developed by DuPont. Its unique mode of action controls lepidopteran insects by blocking sodium ion channels.
I. Mode of Action
Indoxacarb has a unique mode of action. It exerts insecticidal activity through contact and stomach poisoning. After contact or ingestion by insects, feeding stops within 3-4 hours, followed by incoordination, paralysis, and typically death within 24-60 hours after application. Indoxacarb is stable even under strong UV light and remains effective at high temperatures. It is rainfast and adheres strongly to leaf surfaces. Indoxacarb is not systemic but has strong penetrating action (similar to abamectin). Due to its low water solubility, high efficiency, low mammalian toxicity, and lack of chronic toxicity, besides controlling lepidopteran pests, it can also be formulated into gels and baits for controlling public health pests such as cockroaches, fire ants, and ants. In the USA, Indoxacarb is positioned as the only lepidopteran insecticide that also controls the Western Tarnished Plant Bug (Lygus hesperus).
II. Scope of Application
Suitable for controlling pests such as beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua), diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella), cabbage white caterpillar (Pieris rapae), tobacco cutworm/tropical armyworm (Spodoptera litura), cabbage moth (Mamestra brassicae), cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera), tobacco budworm (Heliothis virescens), leafroller moths, codling moth (Cydia pomonella), leafhoppers, inchworms, spiny bollworm (Earias spp.), and Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) on crops like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplants, lettuce, apples, pears, peaches, apricots, cotton, potatoes, grapes, and tea.
Indoxacarb (e.g., Avaunt™) has contact and stomach action and is effective against larvae of all instars. The chemical enters the insect's body through contact or ingestion. Feeding stops within 0-4 hours, followed by paralysis. The insect's coordination decreases (which can cause larvae to fall off the crop), and death typically occurs within 24-60 hours after application.
Its insecticidal mechanism is unique, showing no cross-resistance with other insecticides.
Low toxicity to mammals and livestock, while also being very safe for non-target organisms and beneficial insects in the environment. It has low residue levels in crops, allowing harvest as early as the second day after application. It is particularly suitable for crops with multiple harvests, such as vegetables. It can be used in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and resistance management programs.
